Product Description

We all want our children to succeed. What happens when they do?

Britney Spears wanted to sing ever since she was a little girl. But the years of sacrifices, auditions, performances, albums, fame, and paparazzi left the little Louisiana family swept up and spun around, and nothing turned out the way anyone ever imagined or wanted. Now Lynne shares the inside story of the Spears family as only a mother can.

Through the Storm takes readers outside the narrow orbit of the Hollywood glitterati. Lynne shares how fame forever changed their family; her regrets letting managers, agents, and record companies direct the lives of her children; the challenges that shaped Lynne and Jamie's failed marriage and how they affected Bryan, Britney, and Jamie Lynn; the startling events that led to Britney's breakdown; the aftermath of Jamie Lynn's pregnancy; and how the family has tried pulling together to recapture a sense of hope and purpose.

Through the Storm, says Lynne, is "the story of one simple Southern woman whose family got caught in a tornado called fame, and who is still trying to sort through the debris scattered all over her life in the aftermath. It's who I am, warts and all, with some true confessions that took a long time to get up the nerve to discuss."

3 out of 5 stars On The Fence   January 7, 2009
This was a very interesting read. The begining was very boring. but other than that is was a pretty good read.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent book   January 5, 2009
I just finished reading this book and thought it was excellent. Lynn, I don't know if perhaps you read reviews to hear people's thoughts, but if you do, thanks for writing such an insightful, good book. I am 29 years old and been a fan of Britney's since I first heard "Baby One More Time." All her albums have been great, fun music I enjoy exercising to everyday. I hated seeing Britney so out of control in the media about a year ago and until I read your book, had always wondered exactly what had happened to her. Now I know the truth and am glad you cleared it all up. I want you to know that there are true fans out their praying for her still and looking forward to all that she does in the future too. It makes me so angry that so many people in this world are so harsh and critical and quick to believe the tabloids. Anyways, if Lynn doesn't read this, I hope that fans of Britney, Jamie-Lynn, or just curious people do read this book. It really shows you that celebrities are just regular people too. I truley enjoyed learning more about the whole Spears family.

1 out of 5 stars This book is REALLY awful!!!!   January 3, 2009
So awful, I couldnt even finish it! I wanted to like it, I really did! I am a fan of Britney Spears and always rooting for her success! This book however is just terrible writing, something Lynne Spears should have saved for her own children to read, not market it! How embarrassing for the family! I think she portrays her ex-husband as a drunk when he is very much a good parent in Britneys chaotic life! I could go on and on but who really cares at this point! lol

4 out of 5 stars From one mom to another   January 2, 2009
Sometimes it's important to walk in someone else's shoes to see the "rest of the story". We see the Spears home from the perspective of a mom who loves her girls, but is swept into the midst of a small but powerful segment of society called fame, and all that comes with it. Her life and that of her children are on display for the world to see. Would I want it? As much as I want my children to succeed, I think I'd pass if they had to pay the price that this family has, and yet like Lynne I want my children to run after their dreams. The book is choppy, but held my interest. It felt like a conversation over tea with a new friend as she described her life.

3 out of 5 stars Amatuer Writing That Captures the Heart   December 30, 2008
Upon reading "Through the Storm" I was pleasantly surprised. Lynn Spears tells a captivating story of her life from a young age to the present. She paints a picture of the truth behind the media madness without revealing details of her childrens' lives. I was slightly disappointed in the writing because she tended to jump around quite a bit. It made the book hard to follow from time to time. She does have a way of writing that draws you in though. Much like sitting in on the front porch sipping lemonade with an old friend. Throughout her life, and this book, Lynn seemed to have a strong, yet misguided faith. She relied upon the wrong people, yet said she relied on God. Her Faith was obviously tested in her lifetime. She at times let others make decisions about her childrens' lives that she, as a parent, should have made. I was at times disappointed while reading the book because she painted a picture of a fragile woman caught in the hands of fate, when in reality, she wasn't a martyr. She was naive. There is a difference. Overall, the book read easily and was informative without invading the privacy of her children or other family members. I would recommend it to others.
