Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
OUR DUMB WORLD is the world's most comprehensive fake atlas: a repository of all known information about the planet Earth (except where covered by clouds).

In late 2007 the hardcover edition became one of the hottest books of the holiday season, entertaining and offending hundreds of thousands of readers around the globe. This new, easy-to-carry paperback edition is perfect for the intrepid traveler to any of the world's exotic locales--from Afghanistan, "Allah's Cat Box," to Ukraine, "the Bridebasket of Europe," to the USA's own Nevada, "Where Everyone's a Loser."

Packed with beautiful full-color maps and framed with inaccurate essays about all the world's peoples and places, OUR DUMB WORLD is a gut-busting send-up in which no nation escapes unscathed.

"Bottom line: laughed my head off." --Deirdre Donahue, USA Today

4 out of 5 stars Almost perfect   January 6, 2009
I laugh so hard my gut hurts when I read this book. For the most part, it is exactly what I wanted and expected: A humorous book to entertain me. The only thing that keeps it from being a 5-star book to me is the left-wing bent. I am very much a middle-of-the-road person; by no means a right-wing conservative; however, some of the material is getting old and stale. For example, even the chapters about other countries slip in U.S.-bashing every chance they get. And the entry on Canada comes across more to me as an exultation of Canada being unlike America than any satire or criticism of Canada itself. Then, of course, there is the condescending belittling of every culture's religious beliefs. As long as you can swallow the political leanings, it really is extremely funny. So far, my favorite part is Florida - you have to see this! And I still have a lot to go.

Quick delivery and perfect condition. This book follows true Onion fashion. It's hilarious and gives descriptions of every place in the world. Don't expect it to be politically correct, which is what the Onion never is, and which is also what makes the Onion absolutely hilarious. Enjoy!

4 out of 5 stars Exactly what I expected   December 21, 2008

My BF got this to give to his grandfather, who loves politics but has never seen or heard of The Onion. We took a look through it and it was just as good as the issue that comes out every Thursday. I don't know if he will end up giving it to his grandfather, however, since there are frequent inappropriate pictures (child porn, anyone?). But this would make a great coffee table book in any young household, and you can be sure that it will engender quite a conversation.

5 out of 5 stars Gut buster   December 20, 2008

Sure, not every line in the book is funny. But sometimes you are reading along and read something you just aren't expecting. So, expect to bust a gut at random times.

5 out of 5 stars Stress-Busting Laughs for the Literate   December 6, 2008

In these time of global economic crisis, there aren't too many people out there who wouldn't benefit from some laughter. If you like your laughs delivered via the written word instead of the television, this book is for you.

The Onion's atlas of the world delivers laughs for anyone willing to read it. The essays are offensive and xenophobic; it's as if the stereotypical Ugly American wrote the summaries of each locale. This book does need to be read in small doses, because an overload of the material is possible. If you buy a rich cheesecake it's best eaten in small doses. You'll still get lots of enjoyment but the joy will be spread out over a longer period of time.

Recommended, and quite highly!
