Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Congratulations--just by looking at this webpage, you became 25% more patriotic.

From Stephen Colbert, the host of television's highest-rated punditry show The Colbert Report, comes the book to fill the other 23 hours of your day. I Am America (And So Can You!) contains all of the opinions that Stephen doesn't have time to shoehorn into his nightly broadcast.

Dictated directly into a microcassette recorder over a three-day weekend, this book contains Stephen's most deeply held knee-jerk beliefs on The American Family, Race, Religion, Sex, Sports, and many more topics, conveniently arranged in chapter form.

Always controversial and outspoken, Stephen addresses why Hollywood is destroying America by inches, why evolution is a fraud, and why the elderly should be harnessed to millstones.

You may not agree with everything Stephen says, but at the very least, you'll understand that your differing opinion is wrong.

I Am America (And So Can You!) showcases Stephen Colbert at his most eloquent and impassioned. He is an unrelenting fighter for the soul of America, and in this book he fights the good fight for the traditional values that have served this country so well for so long.

2 out of 5 stars not that funny   December 24, 2008
i WANTED to like it more than i actually did. it was funny at first, but it had no legs. by the end of it, i just thought he sounded stupid. i gave it to my friend, and she thought the same thing. david sedaris is way funnier than stephen colbert, imo.

5 out of 5 stars Stephen Colbert is Funny, As Always.   December 21, 2008
I had never read a book by a comedian before, but this was definitely a good first experience. I laughed, I cried, and I laughed some more.

There's one thing that you should keep in mind, though: Know that this is satire. If you don't watch the show and are unaware of Colbert's method, then you probably won't like this.

5 out of 5 stars You are America and you don't know that Pilgrims are not Puritans?   December 3, 2008

Those lovable, Indian hugging, blunderbust shooting candyasses, with big buckles, never torched a witch. The Pilgrims died out. The Puritans came to America later and morphed into our modern, pie baking, Congregationlists, who are now indistinguishable from other, dying-out, Protestant hymn singers. They will not like having their Bible thumping ancestors outed but I am stuffed with turkey and on a roll.
How can a frog-eating person of French descent be America? We do not eat fussy pastry or horses here. His next book should be --I Am France --and he should get a proofreader who paid attention (around Thanksgiving) in fifth grade. Little Stephen must have been spanking his monkey in the back of the classroom. Great book though. I spanked, I blasted away and I stuffed until I laughed.
This review is by Mary's husband, Goldenrod, who is still living what is left of the American dream. Yes, the rod is less golden but the dream is still there. Just ask Mary.

5 out of 5 stars I was sad to see this book end!   November 18, 2008
This book is incredibly hilarious, if you "get" Stephen Colbert's type of humor. If you like his show, you'll love this book. His tongue-in-cheek, extreme rightwing pundit character is just as politically incorrect as ever, and just so so funny. Complete with his opinion everywhere, including in the margins, it encompasses everything we love about "The Colbert Report." Aside from a few distracting typos (which, according to one sentence in the end of the book, may or may not have been put there on purpose), I found this an easy read and unbelievably fun way to spend my time, and I kept wishing the book was longer, or -- better yet-- that there was a sequel. I hope he writes another. I liked it so much, I bought some as gifts for friends.
