Product Description
More teens are turning away from the faith than ever before: it is estimated that 75 to 88% of Christian teens walk away from Christianity by the end of their freshman year of college. Something must be done. Family Driven Faith equips Christian parents with the tools they need to raise children biblically in a post-Christian, anti-family society. Voddie Baucham, who with his wife has overcome a multi-generational legacy of broken and dysfunctional homes, shows that God has not left us alone in raising godly children. He has given us timeless precepts and principles for multi-generational faithfulness, especially in Deuteronomy 6. God's simple command to Moses to teach the Word diligently to the children of Israel serves as the foundation of Family Driven Faith.

5 out of 5 stars Not your typical view of the family...   December 14, 2008

Dr. Baucham's book is bound to stir controversy, but it is well worth the read and highly recommended, especially if you have seen the statistics from the Barna Group in regard to the fact that 85% of "born-again teens" do not believe in the existence of absolute truth. He refers to other studies that indicate that between 70-88 % of Christian teens are leaving the church by their 2nd year in college. On page 11, Dr. Baucham points out that this translates to the sad correlation that "modern American Christianity has a failure rate somewhere around eight (almost nine) out of ten when it comes to raising children who continue in the faith."

Dr. Baucham states at the bottom of page 12: "My goal here is not to get parents to doubt their children's salvation. I am simply trying to sound a desperately needed alarm."

Throughout the book, Dr. Baucham sprinkles personal stories, reflections and anecdotes where you also get insight into his sense of humor and personal style. The material presented is challenging to be sure. He presents materials that go against the grain of current thinking, against the underlying presuppositions of the current age-segregated model in our modern education system and in our churches. Nowhere does Dr. Baucham condemn anyone for their approaches and points out the statistical findings to back up his claims; he simply challenges their assumptions. He also points out the very real pressures that families who desire to worship and study together face in our programmatic modern churches. On page 170, Dr. Baucham warns the reader that "The pursuit of family driven faith can be costly."

In the final chapter, Dr. Baucham discusses what it means to be "family-integrated" and shows how families who desire to integrate their faith into all areas of their lives (home, education, church etc.), then they must choose a radical worldview.

Each chapter ends with a brief set of "Take Action" steps that guide the reader with ideas about how to implement his suggestions in one's own family.

5 out of 5 stars Parents: Disciple Like Jesus   November 28, 2008
Voddie Baucham presents a practice that is happening only rarely in Christian families. What would happen if parents began to disciple their children like Jesus made disciples? Perhaps we could retain some of the more than 2 million that are leaving each year, never to return, by their second year of college. Let's look at how Jesus made disciples, and begin to follow Him. Then the fruit of parents will begin to look more like the fruit of Jesus, who retained 92% of His disciples.

I thought this was a good book but is geared for the family that hasn't been involved in regular family worship and hasn't thought much about homeschooling their children. If you find yourself in one of those two categories and are looking to get serious about raising your kids then you might enjoy having this book. But if you are looking for new ideas for your family worship and are wanting to go deeper this book is not for you.

This is a book that you will want to pass around. I gave it to my daughter and her husband and they in turned have someone else that is interested in reading it after them. Some chapters are rather boring to keep reading but if you stick with it there are great truths to be found. If applied in your family, they WILL make a positive difference in your lives. We as a family have been doing most of what is suggested in the books since we have had children, my oldest being 25 years old. All 4 children are serving God and being a blessing for those around them. This book contains Great Truths that are Needed in the Church Today!
