Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
They seem to be at irreconcilable odds: violence and grace. Yet award-winning author and musician Michael Card paints a stunning and poignant picture of how violence was the price of grace. Based primarily on passages in Isaiah 53 and Psalm 22, the reader is led on an exploration of the suffering and sacrifice it took to achieve our salvation, of Christ's separation from the Father so that we could enjoy intimacy with God, of His desertion so that we'd never have to be alone, of His rejection so that we'd find acceptance, and of His death so that we'd have eternal life. A Violent Grace gives readers a renewed appreciation for God's eternal love and an important reminder that His love came at a terrible cost.

2 out of 5 stars Moving beyond words   September 2, 2005

This book offered so much insight into the plight of Christ at the cross. I started with a library copy but found that I wanted to hightlight passages and so rushed to buy my own. It was a wonderful read that I would recommend to anyone - new and old Christians alike. I will be buying many more copies to give as gifts. Many heartfelt thanks to Michael Card for putting his thoughts on paper.

4 out of 5 stars This book will give you new insights   April 13, 2004

Michael Card does an excellent job of describing the passion of Christ. This book provides plenty of devotional thoughts, but the highlights for me were the several places where I learned something new about the crucifixion. Card adds the input of a scholar to this work.

5 out of 5 stars A great book about "The Passion of Christ."   March 3, 2004

This book is great.
Timely and relevant, even prophetic (It was published in the year 2000).

In the introduction to the book Michael Card asserts that if any one was to really make an acurate movie about the last few hours of the life of the Messiah that "the blood and gore and pain of the crucifixion would certainly get an R-rating on the screen."
When explaining the point of his book, Card says that it is to "help you see the cross for what it is: on the one hand, the scene of the violent execution of the Son of God and, on the other, the source of His limitless grace."

I was, and I am still, moved by this book.

This book opened my eyes to what Jesus Christ actually went through to give us grace. Michael Card is an inspired song writer, and he is just as talented an author
